'Most Considerate' Hotel Award for Falmouth Hotel

The privately-owned Budock Vean hotel at Mawnan Smith near Falmouth in Cornwall has won the accolade of Considerate Hotel of the Year for 2009-10.
The four-star property was selected by judges for being the best "all-rounder", thanks to a range of successful environmental and social initiatives, which included water and energy conservation, reduction of waste and support for sustainable food.

Bournemouth Unveils New Weather Service

Bournemouth Borough Council (BBC) has launched its own bespoke weather service to provide visitors to the Dorset resort with "accurate, localised" forecasts.
According to the council, an incorrect Met Office forecast for last year's Whitsun Bank Holiday caused around 25,000 potential visitors to stay at home, despite sunny weather conditions.
Up to £15m Settlement in PPL Royalties Row

Hotels, restaurants and pubs will soon be able to claim refunds worth a total of £15m from music royalties collection body Phonographic Performers License (PPL) following a ruling in 2009 from the Copyright Tribunal.
The expected payout comes after a successful appeal by the British Hospitality Association and the British Beer and Pub Association against the tariff forced by PPL for playing recorded music.

OpenTable Diners Reveal Where To Eat The Best Food In The UK

OpenTable Inc. (www.opentable.co.uk), provider of free, real-time online restaurant reservations for diners and reservation and guest management solutions for restaurants, today announced its list of 10 'Best Food' restaurants for the month of May. The list is derived from reviews submitted by OpenTable diners for more than 700 restaurants across the UK. Nearly 100,000 reviews have been provided by UK diners since the launch of the programme last year.

Health Organisation Backs Calls for Minimum Pricing

A prominent health advisory body has backed calls for a minimum price on alcohol, new restrictions on the granting of licences and a ban on advertising.
The minimum price move would reduce overall alcohol consumption in the UK, with the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) concluding that “making alcohol less affordable is the most effective way of reducing alcohol-related harm”.
Clement Robert Named UK Young Sommelier of the Year

Clement Robert from The Summer Lodge hotel in Evershot, Dorset, has been crowned The Chaine des Rotisseurs UK Young Sommelier of the Year.
Robert, previously head sommelier at Hotel Du Vin Cambridge, currently works under Eric Zwebel, the head sommelier of The Summer Lodge in Evershot, Dorset.
General Election Candidates say Pubs More Important to Communities Than Post Offices and Churches

Nine in ten parliamentary candidates in winnable seats believe pubs are an important part of the British way of life and more should be done to support them, according to a new poll released today by ComRes on behalf of the British Beer & Pub Association.
The poll of 101 Parliamentary Election candidates, who are judged likely to win their seats on current opinion poll projections, revealed that candidates are more likely to agree that their local pub is an important part of their local community than post offices, parish churches, village halls and community centres.
