Restaurants Most Penalised Sector for Illegal Workers

Restaurant owners/operators made up the vast majority of employers fined for employing illegal workers since harsher laws were introduced last year, according to new Home Office
figures.
The laws introduced in February 2008 have led to 233 firms being brought to court for employing illegal immigrants, 173 of who were from the restaurant/catering sector.
Whilst the bulk of these were independent restaurants and fast food takeaways, familiar high street chain restaurants were also cited and procecuted.
New Campaign to Save Pubs and Clubs Calls for Changes to Smoking Ban

A new cross-party campaign was launched in Westminster last month calling for amendments to the public smoking ban to help save many of Britain’s pubs and clubs.
With dozens of pubs and clubs closing every week, the Save Our Pubs & Clubs campaign brings together a wide range of politicians, pressure groups, think tanks, publicans and other representatives of the hospitality industry.
